Amazon has started the international expansion of its premium music streaming service.

About a month ago, the retail giant launched Amazon Music Unlimited — its answer to the likes of Apple Music, Google Play Music, and Spotify — initially in the U.S. Now, the service has made its way across the Atlantic: Today sees the debut of Amazon Music Unlimited in Austria, Germany, and the U.K.

On-demand ad-free streaming

On-demand ad-free streaming

As in the U.S., Amazon Music Unlimited offers in its new markets on-demand ad-free playback of “tens of millions” of songs from major and independent labels for a monthly subscription fee. It also features unlimited skips and downloading of tracks for offline listening along with hand-curated and algorithm-generated recommendations and playlists.

Echo integration

Those are pretty much what you’d also find in competing services. But Amazon Music Unlimited does set its feature apart from that of the competition with the inclusion of tight integration with Echo, Amazon’s smart speaker that features Amazon’s intelligent personal assistant, Alexa.

When used with an Echo, the service lets users control music playback and streaming with voice commands similar to those used with Siri for Apple Music, like “Alexa, play a song by Adele,” “Alexa, play the new album by Kishi Bashi,” or “Alexa, play Bruce Springsteen songs from the 70s.” To be sure, Echo also offers access to other streaming services, including Spotify, iHeartRadio, Pandora, and TuneIn Radio, but its more advanced features, like searching songs by lyrics, work only with Amazon Music Unlimited.

Competitive pricing

Competitive pricing

Amazon Music Unlimited also has a lot going for it in terms of competitive pricing, particularly benefiting users of Amazon’s speakers and members of Amazon Prime.

The service is available on three plans: Echo, Individual, and Family. Echo may be used on a single Amazon Echo, Echo Dot or Tap speaker; Individual supports one account on all compatible devices; and Family provides the features of Individual to up to six users.

As in the U.S., Amazon Music Unlimited in Austria, Germany, and the U.K. offers discounts to subscribers under the Echo Plan and to Prime members opting for the Individual plan. As you can notice from the matrices below, the values are the same across all countries, and you need only affix the appropriate currency for a particular country.
