Although I own several cameras, I hardly ever dig them out anymore. The iPhone’s camera is good enough that it doesn’t seem worth the effort. It is limited, however, by its small built-in lens. The Aukey Ora 2-in-1 Clip-on iPhone Camera Lens Set brings back some features you’d get with a real camera. It’s a simple clip-on system with interchangeable lenses.
While the lens set will work on any model iPhone or other smartphone, it’s worth noting that it won’t fit on a phone that’s in a thick case. I never use my iPhone without a case, but I had to use the thinnest case I own in order for this to fit. The clip didn’t fit quite as securely as it would fit on a bare iPhone, but it still works.
The set is heavier and larger than I expected. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, because an effective camera lens contains a lot of glass. Just don’t expect to be able to slip it into a tiny pocket.
That said, using the Aukey Ora lens set was a lot of fun. The lenses themselves are easy to screw on and off of the clip. The wide angle lens fits right onto the macro lens. When you clip the lenses onto your iPhone, you can look down into the lens to see that it’s properly aligned with your iPhone lens.
I took a few sample photos and the lenses work exactly as described. The 15X macro lens is great for perfectly focused up-close photos.
The photo on the left was taken with my iPhone, without any lens. The photo on the right was taken from the same spot, but using the Aukey Ora 15X macro lens.
As you can see, the macro lens gets you closer to your subject, with better focus and background blur. Look at how much more detail you can see in the center of the rose in the photo on the right, which was taken with the macro lens. Notice how beautifully the background blurs, a desirable effect in photography called bokeh.
The backyard photos below show how the 120° or 0.45X wide angle lens widens the field of vision on your iPhone. Without stepping back or changing any settings on my iPhone, the Aukey Ora wide angle lens captures more. Standing in the exact same spot, pointing my iPhone’s camera the same direction, I was able to get more landscape into the bottom photo with the wide angle lens.

While you’re not going to get DSLR quality photos with this lens attachment on your iPhone, you can have a lot of iPhoneography fun and expand your iPhone camera’s abilities. Products like this are getting point and shoot cameras closer and closer to obsolescence.
