Drip, Drip: More Proof Touch ID is Moving to the Back of the Next iPhone
Yes, the iPhone 8 Touch ID could be moving.
The likelihood that the “iPhone 8” will ship with a Touch ID button on the back of the device continues to grow. The latest rumor to show this possibility comes from popular Apple blogger Sonny Dickson.
As you can see in the image above, the latest would-be iPhone 8 design shows a cutout for a circle right below the Apple logo. You can also see room for a vertical camera on the same side.
The next-generation iPhone was supposed to include an integrated Touch ID on the front of the device. However, sources in the supply chain in recent weeks have said that Apple is continuing to have yield issues with this type of design. Were these issues to continue, Apple might be forced to approve a “Plan B” design for the 10th anniversary iPhone.
Another recent report says that Apple could ditch Touch ID completely on the iPhone 8 and instead use biometric technology including iris recognition or 3-D sensors for authentication.
Once you move past the placement of the Touch ID and how it’s designed, Apple’s next flagship device should include the following features:
- A 5.8-inch OLED display
- Made mostly of glass on both sides, surrounded by a metal frame
- Wireless charging
- The same dimensions as the current iPhone models
- Invisible” front-facing camera hidden underneath the display.
Apple’s expected to unveil three new iPhones this fall. Besides the iPhone 8, the company’s likely to announce the “iPhone 7s” and “iPhone 7s Plus.”
