iPhone X Walk-In: Is it Really Possible to Get a Phone Tomorrow, Nov. 3?

Apple promises there will be iPhone X handsets available at its retail stores beginning tomorrow at 8 a.m. local time. It didn’t note, however, how many handsets would be available at each location.

Perhaps not surprisingly, Apple stores in larger areas will probably get more stock than those in smaller locations. The flip side of this, however, is the lines are probably going to be longer in those areas.

Your best bet is to drop everything right now and begin standing in line at your nearest Apple store. If you’re close to more than one Apple retail location, go to the one in the least populated area. Just make sure you’re at the front of the line.

We’ve received conflicting information about whether iPhone X units will be available at carrier stores tomorrow. An AT&T sales representative, for example, told AppAdvice initial supplies at stores would only cover pre-orders from customers who elected to pick up their new handsets on launch day.

Later, we received word from an AT&T spokesperson, “Select stores will have limited inventory on launch day.  All stores will have iPhone X on display so customers can see it in person and place an order in store.”

Folks at Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint were less forthcoming, indicating supplies would vary by store.

When asked whether non-Apple retailers would even have iPhone X units on sale tomorrow, an Apple spokesperson was non-committal saying only retailers “controlled how they sell their supply.”

Instead of visiting a carrier store, you could try standing in line at Best Buy or Target. Walmart is another possibility, which plans on offering AT&T and Verizon iPhone X models. Again, visit a store in the least populated area first.

U.S. carriers allow more than one authorized user per account. If this is the case in your situation, it might be wise to divide and conquer. Have everyone who’s an authorized user on your account stand in line at a different location, making note of what handset each user hopes to purchase. When someone gets lucky, text the others and get ready to celebrate.

Life’s all about making choices. If you’re buying an iPhone X, your selections are limited to two colors (silver, space gray) and two storage (64GB, 256GB) choices.

If you get lucky and have the opportunity to make a purchase tomorrow, understand your top choice might not be available. For example, you might have your mind set on getting a 256GB iPhone X in space gray, but the only one available may be a 64GB iPhone X in silver.

Would this be acceptable for you? Make this decision BEFORE you’re in line. Otherwise, you might make a decision in the moment that you might regret later on.

Do you really want to stand in line all night only to return your phone the next day? Probably not?

Employees at Apple, carriers, and other retail stores are hardworking and dedicated. They aren’t all that knowledgeable, however, when it comes to future iPhone supply levels. These folks don’t know how many iPhones will be available at their location on Friday, Saturday, or any other day. Therefore, save yourself some time and don’t call them hoping to get information. Use that time to stand in line.
