KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has issued a new research note concerning the “iPhone 8.” It provides some clarity to the ongoing rumor that Apple is planning on releasing a 5.8-inch iPhone in 2017.

As noted by AppleInsider, Kuo now believes that Apple’s 2017 iPhone lineup will definitely include a 5.8-inch model. However, the “active screen area” on that model will actually be much less, 5.1- to 5.2-inches.

The OLED iPhone will feature “significant changes in form factor,” Kuo said, and will boast specifications “considerably better” than the LCD models. This means that despite having a smaller screen than the 5.5-inch iPhone Plus model, the OLED version will be the most high-end model.

Kuo and others have previously noted that all 2017 iPhone models will shift to glass casing instead of metal. Only the 5.8-inch model will feature an OLED display due to limited OLED production.
