Pocket Heroes' First Ever Update Is Far From Pocket-Sized

July 31, 2012
Released earlier this month, Pocket Heroes has just received its first ever update. The update brings a much-requested feature as well as a host of improvements. Pocket Heroes is billed as "the first turn-based multiplayer RPG for mobile devices." As such, it incorporates an asynchronous multiplayer gameplay into an action adventure role-playing game. Originally, Pocket Heroes requires that you enter an email address or Game Center nickname to start a game. But now, thanks to its first update, a game can be initiated through random matchmaking. A button labeled "Random Player" has been added to the invite screen, enabling you to randomly invite an existing player of Pocket Heroes. In addition to random matchmaking, a myriad new features and balance changes have been applied through the update. Pocket Heroes developer F5 Games has also pointed out a couple of gameplay changes. As it happens, these particular gameplay changes do not necessitate an actual update. Rather, one is implemented on the server side and the other is a simple player hack. First, gold is now shareable among characters of the same player. Previously, a character has its own gold value and this value is his and his alone. Second, you can opt to play with yourself by basically inviting yourself using the email address you associated with your Pocket Heroes account. Now you can ensure that your partner (i.e., you) is someone who is going to take his turn regularly. Designed for iPhone and iPod touch, Pocket Heroes is available in the App Store for $0.99. Is that a hero in your pocket, or are you just happy to see this update?
