Avengers Alliance, the free-to-play battle game featuring superheroes and supervillains from the Marvel universe, has just been updated with its very first Special Operations episode. Titled "Avengers vs. X-Men," the game's first Special Operations episode has you siding with either the Avengers or the X-Men as they fight for the powerful Phoenix Essence. Avengers Alliance's Special Operations 1: Avengers vs. X-Men features the following:
  • Complete the mission to earn playable hero Magik
  • New Phoenix Five uniforms with new abilities for playable heroes Phoenix, Cyclops, and Colossus

The new version of Avengers Alliance also adds special PvP bonus items for the Armory and fixes a bug that disables counterattacks for certain characters. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later, Avengers Alliance is available in the App Store for free. "As free-to-play games go," our original review here on AppAdvice notes, "this one is a lot of fun. You can battle against enemies, train up your team, and collect heroes. Expect to drop a couple of dollars if you want to take advantage of the better aspects of the game. However, you can play the missions without needing to spend real money, so you won’t feel like Marvel Entertainment is trying to take advantage of you."
