First teased in late August, Rovio has revealed the next incarnation in the Angry Birds universe, Angry Birds Go!, will hit the App Store on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
If the name didn’t tip you off, the game pays homage to the famous kart racer and will feature upgradeable vehicles, a stable full of characters with unique powers, and fully 3-D rendered worlds.
Here’s a gameplay trailer. Click here if you can’t see the video.
Hasbro’s Telpods, which first made an appearance in Angry Birds Star Wars II, will also be a major part of Angry Birds Go! Gamers can purchase the toys and then transport the karts into the game using just the front camera of their iOS device. At the end of the month, a special countdown app will allow gamers to scan the toys and see exactly what they will get in the game.
And as a first for a game in the series, Angry Birds Go! will be a free title. Obviously, Rovio plans to offer many other game enhancements with in-app purchases.
I’m actually excited about Angry Birds Go! It’s an interesting new direction for the series. And it’s probably the closest I’ll ever get to playing Mario Kart on my iOS device for a long time.
