There's been a lot of talk over the past few months concerning potential Final Fantasy releases for iOS. Developer-publisher of the role-playing game (RPG) series Square Enix confirmed recently that along with Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, a further title - Final Fantasy VI - is set to reach the App Store in the near future.
The news hit the Web in a Kotaku article, in which the developer-publisher's director and producer Takashi Tokita explained that Final Fantasy VI for iOS "won't be a straight port."
Tokita said:
It is basically like a remake of the original VI. But there have been some enhancements. The battle systems have been altered for the other [mobile remakes] for Final Fantasy and VIwill be the same. For instance grinding was an issue and people had to spend a lot of time leveling up. Now on the mobile devices the battle systems have been adjusted so you don't have to fight as much and can enjoy the game for what it is.Though the 2-D animations of the original game will be maintained, Tokita added that the iOS application will see the app's graphics optimized for smartphones. However, that's not all. The director and producer added that Square Enix could continue with the Final Fantasy "Legacy" series beyond Final Fantasy VI, and noted: "If this Legacy project works out well, we would like to one day be able to work with VII."
