Could The After Years' App Store Sale Foreshadow The Release Of Final Fantasy VI?
Developer-publisher Square Enix has been teasing iDevice users with a mobile release of Final Fantasy VI (FF VI) for some time, however if a recent addition to the release notes for one other Final Fantasy title is anything to go by, the anticipated release of FF VI could be just around the corner. Here’s hoping!
The news reached us from TouchArcade, which draws attention to Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. Following its original announcement, Square Enix launched its 3-D remake of The After Years in the App Store in November, and now the application has gone on sale. In its release notes, Square Enix advertises the 30 percent discount, curiously adding:
Sale Details!
Final Fantasy VI Coming soon to iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad!
Could it be that The After Years’ 30 percent off sale foreshadows the launch of FF VI? TouchArcade thinks this may be the case, but concludes that at the very least, “it’s a sign that they’re doing something inside of iTunes Connect.”
Square Enix confirmed that FF VI was App Store-bound back in October, and since then, screenshots and even a trailer of the upcoming game have surfaced online. If you’ve been wondering what exactly FF VI for iOS and Android could entail, Square Enix director Takashi Tokita said recently that the application is:
basically like a remake of the original VI. But there have been some enhancements. The battle systems have been altered for the other [mobile remakes] for Final Fantasy and VI will be the same. For instance grinding was an issue and people had to spend a lot of time leveling up. Now on the mobile devices the battle systems have been adjusted so you don’t have to fight as much and can enjoy the game for what it is.
Below, we’ve embedded the aforementioned trailer of FF VI. Here’s hoping the game makes its way to the App Store sooner rather than later - we’ll keep you updated with further information as we receive it.
In the meantime, you can pick up Final Fantasy IV: The After Years for $10.99, for a limited time only.
