Smart Watch-Maker Meta Hopes To Take On Pebble With New Premium Product
The folks behind MetaWatch have announced a new product line at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), and hope to establish the company as the creator of “premium” smart watches through its partnership with designer Frank Nuovo, of Nokia and Vertu.
Nuovo designed a new line of smart watches for Meta (formerly MetaWatch), and the company is now calling its offerings “beautiful, premium smart watches” set to rival the likes of Pebble and Samsung’s Galaxy Gear. Though pricing for the new Meta watches hasn’t been announced, it’s suggested that the forthcoming product line could retail at more than $200 - the price Meta charged for its MetaWatch “Frame” model.
Chief executive Bill Geiser said: “This is the official start of our new brand evolution to Meta. The Meta brand expresses a blend of modern and classic style while integrating technology as a means to enhance the human side of your digital life.”
Designed to be more comfortable to wear, the new smart watch product line “provides a visibly unique, classically influenced style, which is inspired and driven by our theme: ‘Art of the Glance,’” according to Frank Nuovo. He added: “It’s a perfect solution for customers’ personal fashion sense and a desired improvement to their digital mobile experience.”
In the new design, the pivot points that hold the band in place on the watch are located further inward, toward the center of the display. Meta officials say that the new design change allows for a more comfortable fit on the wrist.
Official specifications haven’t yet been released, but we’re hoping to hear more from Meta soon. We’ll keep you updated with further information as we receive it. The new product line should be available to purchase in spring from Best Buy.
