Jailbreakers Can Now Untether iOS 6.1.6 Using P0sixspwn

If you’re running a jailbroken iPhone 3GS or fourth-generation iPod touch, it’s now possible to jailbreak under the recently released iOS 6.1.6 using p0sixspwn. Much like iOS 7.0.6, the minor software update fixes a serious SSL security flaw in Apple’s iOS, and as such users are strongly advised to download and install the update.
As of this writing, the refreshed p0sixspwn solution isn’t available as a standalone jailbreak tool; instead, jailbreakers can find the software as a package in the Cydia Store. In order to untether an iPhone 3GS or fourth-gen iPod touch using p0sixspwn 1.4, users will first have to jailbreak using a tethered solution (with redsn0w or sn0wbreeze) before seeking out p0sixspwn and applying the untether.
Co-creator @iH8sn0w has confirmed that he’ll “probably” be releasing a standalone p0sixspwn 1.4 app, but told iDownloadBlog that “priority is not high.” We’ll let you know if such a release comes about.
The other p0sixspwn creator, @winocm, confirmed recently that he’s joining Apple. As we explained at the time, this isn’t the first instance of Apple hiring jailbreak hackers and developers: it previously happened with @comex and Peter Hajas. We’re guessing @winocm’s work on p0sixspwn has halted as a result.
As mentioned, you can pick up p0sixspwn 1.4 in the Cydia Store free of charge, and it’s optimized for the iPhone 3GS and fourth-generation iPod touch. If you’re looking to jailbreak under iOS 7.0.6, check our recent article on evasi0n7 1.0.6.
