Cydia Tweak: How To Personalize The iOS Spotlight Search
Spotlight for iOS is a killer feature, for sure, but one jailbreak tweak can make it even better. Called CustomSpotlightText, the free package allows iOS device users to personalized the iOS-wide search tool by adding custom text.
After installing CustomSpotlightText, jailbreakers can add a custom message or greeting to Spotlight from inside of the Settings app. Here, the package adds a new preferences pane: a simple text field allows users to replace the default “Search iPhone” text with anything they like.
Once you've done this, the change takes place immediately; you don't need to reboot or respring your iOS device in order for CustomSpotlightText to work its magic. Your new Spotlight text should appear the next time you activate the search feature at your iOS device's Home screen.
If you're looking to improve Spotlight's functionality under iOS 7, another jailbreak tweak that might be of interest is ClearOnOpen. This simple but effective package auto-clears Spotlight's text field after a search has been performed; it's one of two jailbreak tweaks that I'd struggle to use my iPhone without (with the other being iTouchSecure, which we've covered previously).
There's also CommandSpot, which brings system commands to Spotlight, and SpotLock, which oddly allows users to lock their iOS device by activating Spotlight (for pre-iOS 7 devices).
As mentioned, the new CustomSpotlightText can be downloaded from the Cydia Store free of charge, and it's optimized for iOS 7 and ARM64-devices.
