Russian Officials Have Ditched Apple's iPad For Samsung Tablets
Russian government officials are no longer using Apple’s iPad in a professional capacity, according to a recent report. The news claims that Samsung-made tablets have rather been adopted “to ensure tighter security.”
The news comes from Business Insider, which cites comments from Russia’s telecoms minister Nikolai Nikiforov in a recent article. The minister explained that Russian officials switched over to using Samsung tablets “not so long ago,” and noted that the new tablets deployed in government are “specially protected devices that can be used to work with confidential information.”
Nikiforov added:
Some of the information at government meetings is confidential in nature and these devices fully meet these demands and have gone through the strictest system of certification.
When asked if “Russia was clamping down on U.S. technology in response to Western sanctions imposed over its takeover of Ukraine’s Crimea peninsula,” the minister denied that this was the case. “We are not proposing any sanctions,” Nikiforov said.
Of course, the news that the U.S. government has a “100 percent success rate when it comes to implanting iOS devices with spyware” isn’t exactly encouraging, even if Apple claims it doesn’t help the National Security Agency (NSA) collect iOS user data.
Concerning such reports, the minister added: “This obviously orientates Russian clients, primarily state ones, to be very choosy about their partners in I.T.”
Elsewhere overseas, British carrier EE has launched revamped 4G LTE price plans, construction is continuing on Apple’s new retail stores in Hanover and Edinburgh, and recent tax changes in Britain could see App Store prices decrease (rather than increase).
