Apple Celebrates Earth Day 2014
April 22, 2014
To celebrate Earth Day 2014, Apple has added a little bit of green to its retail store logos. Apple retail store employees are also wearing special green shirts to celebrate the event, which was first held in 1970.
As the top photo shows, the top steam on the Apple logo in some stores is now green. Here are some additional photos, courtesy of an AppAdvice reader:
In other Earth Day related news, the iPad is now eligible for Apple's in-store Reuse & Recycling program, which allows customers to receive credit for their older products. Previously, customers could only use the trade-in credit for iPhones. Now, those credits can be used to purchase new iPads or iPhones. Additionally, credits on old iPhones can now be used to buy new iPads.
Yesterday, Apple released a video describing the company’s environmental efforts. “Better” is narrated by Apple CEO Tim Cook and explains how Cupertino is striving to reduce its impact on climate change, find ways to use greener materials, and conserve resources for future generations.

Last week, Apple announced it was planning to celebrate Earth Day for the first time in eight years. Cupertino is part of this year’s “Green Cities” initiative, which focuses on more environmentally efficient buildings, transportation, and cities.
Besides covering its Apple Store logos with green, employees at some stores are being given new Earth Day shirts to wear. At the company’s main campus, a “large-scale internal event” is being held this afternoon.
Apple’s involvement with this year’s Earth Day makes a lot of sense, given the focus of Green Cities. The company has long been committed to making its new Campus 2 environmentally-friendly. In 2013, Apple hired former EPA administrator Lisa Jackson to serve as its top environmental adviser.
