Cydia Tweak: Canopy For iOS 7 Turns Safari Into The Best iOS Web Browser Out There

May 20, 2014

Apple’s Safari for iOS might be a solid, reliable Web browser, however one new jailbreak tweak can turn the app into the best iOS Web browser out there. It’s called Canopy for iOS 7 (an updated version of the original Canopy package), and the software can be downloaded now for $1.99.

Though $1.99 might sound like a lot for a jailbreak tweak (admittedly, many of the packages we talk about here often happen to be either free or $0.99), it should be stressed that Canopy for iOS 7 is a package that’s about as fully-featured as they come. The jailbreak tweak works by making a slew of changes to the Safari iOS application, and we’ve outlined some of the best below.

First, Canopy adds an “Open in Chrome” sharing button to Safari, and it adds Chrome-inspired “Paste” and “Paste and Go” buttons to the omnibar. There’s also an option that allows users to close all open Web pages at once, to easily translate pages, and to add Web pages to users’ Reading List or bookmarks.

These can all be enabled or disabled from inside the Settings app, and here Canopy for iOS 7 adds a dedicated preferences pane. However, users should find that most of the jailbreak tweak’s options are auto-enabled from the get-go, meaning a visit to the Settings application won’t be strictly necessary.

As mentioned, Canopy for iOS 7 can be downloaded on the Cydia Store for $1.99, and a separate iOS 6 package is also available. If you’ve been hoping to expand on Safari’s feature set, look no further.
