Analyst: Apple Could Sell 33.5 Million 'iWatches' During The First Year
June 13, 2014
How many “iWatch” units will Apple sell during the first year? At least 33.5 million, according to at least one analyst. This number is based on the assumption that 10 percent of iPhone owners will buy the wearable device in the first 12 months, according to AppleInsider.
In a note to investors, Keith Bachman of BMO Capital Markets believes Apple could sell the iWatch for $250 per unit with gross margins of around 25 percent. “With those projections, he believes 10 percent penetration among iPhone owners would add 3.1 percent to Apple's calendar year 2015 earnings per share, while 20 percent adoption would add 6.2 percent to 2015 EPS.”
In recent weeks, separate reports have said Apple's long-rumored wearable device could launch in October alongside the "iPhone 6."
Last week, Nikkei said the iWatch will use a curved OLED screen and will collect a large amount of health-related data like sleep activity, glucose levels, and blood oxygen levels. Soon after, Re/Code said that Apple’s plans for the iWatch could change over the summer, but that October is currently the “target” date.
