A new IFTTT channel harnesses the smart Rachio Iro sprinkler controller

November 5, 2014

The Rachio Iro app-enabled sprinkler controller is getting even smarter with the introduction of a new IFTTT channel.

We’re previously mentioned the Iro, and how it is much like a Nest Thermostat for your yard. With the built-in Wi-Fi connection, it can automatically adjust to the weather conditions and seasons to use as little water as possible while still allowing your yard to thrive.

And the new channel on the service, also known as “If This, Then That,” highlights a number of preconfigured recipes for users of the controller. Some examples include the ability to track watering in a Google spreadsheet or receive an SMS when watering begins.

Users can also concoct their own recipe featuring Iro with one of the other numerous services on IFTTT.

If you’re interested in the Iro, it retails for $249 and can be purchased from the company’s site or Home Depot now. Rachio’s Iro companion app also received a nice update last week. Along with Nest Protect integration, users can lower irrgation by up to 30 percent thanks in part to new software algorithms.

The Iro channel can also be accessed from the service’s iOS app, which can be downloaded now from the App Store for free. It’s universal and designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini.

It was recently updated with optimizations for the higher-resolution screens of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and more.
