AOL updates MapQuest for iOS with new information-driven features

AOL has just updated the official iOS app of its MapQuest mapping service with new features that are designed to provide you with more information as you hit the road or plan your next adventure.

The latest update to MapQuest for iOS boasts an enhanced navigation experience. “Get a heads-up on your next turn with a clearer on-map directive,” AOL notes. “In addition, the new and improved list view for your route automatically scrolls the now bolder turn-by-turn statements with your progress so the next maneuver is always easy to see.”

The update also lets you learn more about a point of interest (POI) with the new “Nice to Know” section from Yelp. Just tap “Nice to Know” in the “more” menu for a POI to view additional information about the POI, including credit card acceptance, Wi-Fi availability, and other useful details.

Also in the “more” menu for a POI that is a hotel, the new version of MapQuest lets you view amenities, check-in and checkout times, and room availability, and even book a reservation right within the app.

MapQuest now also lets you view upcoming events at popular venues and buy tickets to them directly in the app.

The new version of MapQuest also includes bug fixes, minor improvements, and a new option for sending feedback and feature requests to AOL.

Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 7.0 or later, MapQuest is available on the App Store for free.

The app offers in-app purchases worth $3.99 for disabling ads and $1.99 for unlocking each MLB.com Team Kit, which includes custom logos, accent colors, and saved routes to ball games.

MapQuest received its last major update in November, thereby gaining support for membership-free roadside assistance powered by Urgent.ly.

MapQuest’s continually expanding feature set makes it a good mapping app option especially as it competes against Apple’s Maps and Google Maps, which has also just been updated with several notable features.
