Apple launches 'Free on iTunes' promotion featuring free songs and TV show episodes

All the Stores - App Store, iTunes, & Retail
January 26, 2015

Apple has just added a new section on the iOS and desktop versions of the iTunes Store that features some free content.

Aptly called Free on iTunes, the section lists a number of full-length songs and TV show episodes that are available to download from the digital media store at no cost.

Don’t expect any big acts and titles, though. At launch, Free on iTunes features songs by the likes of Rogue Wave, Purity Ring, and Michelle Chamuel, and episodes of shows including “Backstrom,” “12 Monkeys,” and “The Musketeers.”

At any rate, if you want to download songs and shows free of charge (without resorting to illegal means, that is), check out the Free on iTunes section by tapping its banner on the iTunes Store homepage on iOS and desktop or by clicking here. Who knows? You might discover a new favorite among the featured freebies.

Free on iTunes

The new Free on iTunes promotion is introduced just about a couple of weeks after the discontinuation of Apple’s decade-long Single of the Week giveaway on the iTunes Store, which itself came after the notable absence of Apple’s supposedly annual 12 Days of Gifts over the holiday season.

Apple, however, managed to give away U2’s latest album last fall for free, whether iTunes customers liked it or not.
