Sid Meier's Starships interstellar strategy game to soon launch on Mac and iPad
Sid Meier is going out of this world for his next game.
The renowned game designer behind the popular Civilization strategy games and a number of other titles that bear his possessive credit has announced Sid Meier’s Starships.
The upcoming game is an interstellar turn-based 4X game that will challenge players to control a fleet of starships as they go about their exploration, expansion, exploitation, and extermination.
As reported by GameSpot, Meier designed Starships as a spiritual successor to Civilization: Beyond Earth, which was released for Mac and PC late last year:
“When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth,” Meier said. “What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth?”
Starships is also said to include certain features that tie in with Beyond Earth to enhance the gaming experience for players of both games.
Developed by Firaxis and set to be published by 2K, Sid Meier’s Starships is scheduled for launch in early 2015 on iPad, Mac, and PC.
As it’s a game that carries Sid Meier’s name, Starships is certainly on our watch list. And we’ll certainly let you know once it lands on the App Store and the Mac App Store.
