A must have iOS 8 Notification Center widget, Breaking, gets even better with its first update
I’m a big fan of iOS 8 Notification Center widgets. And one of my favorites – Breaking – has just received its first update with the move to version 1.1.
If you couldn’t tell from the name, Breaking is all about bringing the latest news from your favorite sites directly to the Today view. Users can easily select their favorite sources to display news from.
Most importantly, you can now select the number of stories to display in the widget. The iPhone is limited to five while iPad users can see up to 10 stories.
And with the update, users can quickly swipe to dismiss a story in the widget. That’s a great improvement, especially since the next story will automatically appear in the widget.
Adding a social feature, you can press and hold a story to share it on Twitter or Facebook and even open it in any app that supports the native share extension. Also, a new setting allows stories appearing in the widget to automatically be opened in Readability.
Using the new Recent stories feature, you can open and share the latest stories that have been read or dismissed.
A universal app designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini, Breaking can be downloaded now on the App Store for $2.99.
Originally landing back in March, our own Christine Chan talked more about how the app works in her original review. Shortly after its release, Breaking received our well-deserved AppAdvice App of the Week award.
And if you’re interested, there is a Mac version of Breaking designed for OS X Yosemite’s Today view. That app will set you back $4.99.
