Procreate Pocket now supports pressure-sensitive painting with 3D Touch
Last month, Procreate got a terrific update that most notably optimized the acclaimed iPad drawing app for the iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil.
Now, Procreate Pocket, the app’s similarly acclaimed iPhone edition, has just received a rather nice update that brings optimizations for the new iPhones and a good deal more besides.
3D Touch
Undoubtedly the most noteworthy enhancement brought about by the latest update to Procreate Pocket is support for 3D Touch, Apple’s pressure-sensitive multi-touch technology.
For starters, Procreate Pocket’s 3D Touch integration allows you to press down on the app’s icon on the home screen of your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus to access a quick shortcut for creating a new canvas.
But where Procreate Pocket’s 3D Touch integration really shines is in its enabling of pressure-sensitive painting. Now, you don’t need a pressure-sensitive stylus. If you have an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, you can simply vary the pressure of your finger-strokes to carry out pressure-sensitive painting in Procreate Pocket.
The latest update to Procreate Pocket also resolves issues encountered when tapping or dragging layers on 3D Touch-enabled devices.
Native Apple Watch app
In March, ahead of the official release of the Apple Watch, Procreate Pocket was updated with a wrist extension inspired by the traditional wooden artist’s palette.
Now, that Apple Watch app has been upgraded to watchOS 2 and made native with improved battery consumption and responsiveness, and has been “reborn” as Procreate Palette, to better communicate its main function as a digital palette that works in tandem with the Procreate Pocket app on iPhone.
More improvements
The new version of Procreate Pocket also introduces support for undoing actions by tapping with two fingers, redoing actions by tapping with three fingers, and toggling full-screen mode by tapping with four fingers.
Moreover, Alpha Lock is now accessed through the Layer Options menu (instead of the old swipe gesture) and the full toolbar from Procreate for iPad is now used in landscape orientation on iPhones with 4-inch displays or larger (i.e., iPhone 5 and later).
The latest update to Procreate Pocket also includes speed improvements of up to double the frame rate across all supported devices, along with other fixes and improvements to make creating on the go easier.
Designed for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 9.1 or later, and optimized for Apple Watch, Procreate Pocket is available on the App Store for $2.99.
Compatible with iPad running iOS 9.1 or later, Procreate for iPad is available on the App Store for $5.99.
