Another Apple Supplier Confirms an iPhone with an OLED Screen Should Arrive in 2017
We’re seeing even more evidence that the 2017 version of the iPhone will feature OLED screen technology. According to a new report from Bloomberg, suppliers are already beginning to see returns on Apple’s long-term plans.
A big step forward
You can view OLED screen technology on the Apple Watch.
Applied Materials provides equipment that can be used to make smartphone displays. The company recently announced that it saw four times more orders for its technology. A company executive didn’t exactly say the word “Apple” but did strongly hint at where the order increase was coming from:
“It’s not a peak or a one-time event,” said Applied Materials Chief Executive Officer Gary Dickerson. “This is going to be sustainable growth. We all know who is the leader in terms of mobile products.”
That new type of screen technology offers a number of advantages compared to the usual LCD display. It uses less power, which means an iPhone would be even more battery efficient. OLED displays are also thinner and lighter, offer wider viewing angles, higher brightness, and improved contrast levels.
The technology is also highlighted by faster response time and better color reproduction.

Other improvements?
Last week, another Apple supplier confirmed that the future iPhone will also offer a glass casing. The device could also possibly feature a Touch ID sensor built into the screen itself.
The “iPhone 7” is expected to feature a nearly identical design to the iPhone 6s/6 line.
