The Apple Spring Event 2017 Might Not Be Held Until April

The Apple spring event might not be held this month after all. Instead, the company might not announce new iPads until April, according to Digitimes.

Citing supply chain sources, the report notes that Apple is planning to announce an iPad event for “early April.” Previous rumors had suggested the event would occur this month, just as it did in 2016.

Last year’s spring event was held on March 21.

Back on Feb. 24, Digitimes noted that Apple would reveal three new iPad Pros in March, including an all new 10.5-inch model, plus updated versions of the 9.7- and 12.9-inch models. At the time, the publication said that the 10.5-inch model, though announced in March, wouldn’t arrive in stores until May or June. The latest report says Apple has pushed up production plans for the model so that it could arrive much earlier.

On Monday, other supply chain sources said Apple’s next event would be held between March 20 and March 24.

Also on Monday, analytics firm Fiksu confirmed that four new iPad device identifiers have appeared in their logs. These unannounced iPads are running the latest iOS 10.3 beta and early builds of iOS 11.

The bottom line: New iPads are certainly coming soon. When that occurs remains an open question, at best.

I’m still holding out hope that Apple will hold an event before the end of the month. For this to happen, the company would need to make an announcement very soon. Stay tuned.
