iPhone Display Sizes Growing in 2018 As Apple Makes Early Changes
The iPhone display sizes are expected to increase even further in 2018 than once imagined, according to “local parts makers.” The news comes nearly five weeks before Apple releases this year’s 5.8-inch iPhone X, according to Korea’s The Investor.
Back in August, it was reported Apple was prepping a 5.28-inch and 6.46-inch iPhone for 2018. These models would have been joined by the successor to the iPhone X.
This latest report says Apple has ditched the 5.28-inch model and will instead only offer a 5.85-inch and 6.46-inch OLED models next year.
They explain:
The development work for the 5.28-inch model has recently been suspended possibly due to the low marketability of the smaller version.
This year’s iPhone lineup has displays measuring between 4-inches (iPhone SE) and 5.8-inches diagonally. There’s no word on whether Apple plans on continuing to produce iPhones with LCD displays after this production cycle.
The screen size for iPhone has steadily increased since Tim Cook became Apple’s CEO in 2011. The first five iPhones featured 3.5-inch displays. In 2012, the company introduced the 4-inch iPhone 5. Two years later, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus were released. The next change occurred earlier this month with the announcement of the 5.8-inch iPhone X.
