The Best iPhone Apps Of The Week

June 18, 2011
The AppAdvice iPhone App Of The Week – Audiotap ($1.99), released June 9 Audiotap: Stream Your iTunes Library Over Wi-Fi Or 3G This handy application for the iPhone and iPod touch allows users to stream an iTunes library to their mobile device, over Wi-Fi or 3G. Furthermore, the app is even compatible with the original iPhone - which is great. Currently, the app can only be used by Mac users (this is because a Windows client hasn't yet been developed). However, we're expecting Windows support to arrive soon. New releases TITUS ($1.99), released June 14 Meet TITUS, A Politician Who Isn't A Weiner TITUS is a political game with a difference. As outlined in our article, which hit the Web earlier this week:
Politicians aren’t all Twitter users and former weightlifters with women problems. Some actually want to make their world a better place. One of those is Titus, a panic-attack prone watchmaker who decides he wants to be president of his homeland, Wealland. This is the premise of TITUS, the new political campaign simulator game for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad.
As mentioned, TITUS is available for $1.99. Rhythm Runner ($0.99), released June 15 Rhythm Runner Kicks Its Way Into The App Store In Rhythm Runner, gamers have to save the day with rhythm-based moves, as they run along a linear platform to funky music. As outlined in the app's release notes, features include:
  • Jump, Kick, and Slide through three different worlds
  • Nine amazing custom-made music tracks.
  • Great graphics.
  • Bossfights!
  • And much more.
The game itself was actually developed by five Swedish students, as their Game Development project. It's available for $0.99, so check it out. Updates Angry Birds ($0.99), updated June 17 Angry Birds Updated: "Mine & Dine" - Cave Theme, 15 New Levels Rovio's popular iPhone app, Angry Birds, received an update this week. The update added 15 new levels and a brand-new cave theme. It's currently live in the App Store, so check it out. WakeMate (free), updated June 15 WakeMate 2.0 Is Sleek and Simple The new version of WakeMate (2.0) adds an improved design and a much-improved user interface, including improved tagging, simpler setup and a more "streamlined" data view. The app is still available to download for free, so check out the latest version. Bumpy Road ($2.99), updated June 14 Take Another Joy Ride On The Updated Bumpy Road The popular application for the iPhone and iPad, Bumpy Road, has received an update, too. Here's what's new:
The updates include: faster loading times, new Game Center achievements and added game features. There are now over 100 new levels and two new tracks inside Sunday Trip. It used to be only one game, now it is divided into three: Classic, Sprint and Marathon. There is also a new braking element called “Brake Gizmo.”  If you accidentally pick one of these up, it will slow your car down. The object is to get to the end of the ride as quickly as you can.
Bumpy Road certainly is a great game, and the updated version is better than ever. Take a look at it, and let us know your thoughts in the comments. Facekandi ($0.99), updated June 12 Facekandi: A FaceTime Chatroulette App For iPhone While Facekandi's latest update didn't add much to the application itself, it did bring the app to our attention - and Facekandi certainly is an interesting app. Using Apple's FaceTime service, the application allows users to play a Chatroulette-style game, engaging in randomized video chats with others. As mentioned, it's available for $0.99. Shazam Encore ($5.99), updated June 15 Shazam Encore Gets "LyricPlay" - Sing Along With That Track You Just Tagged This week, Shazam Encore received a great update that added an exciting, new feature - "LyricPlay." Now, after users have tagged a track on their iPhone, they can view the lyrics to that track in real-time, making it easier than ever to sing along! The feature comes following Shazam's acquisition of "synchronized lyric technology" from Silicon Valley based startup, Tunezee. Unfortunately, it's only available for Shazam Encore - the premium, $5.99 version of the free app. However, the feature is great (though it's limited to the USA and Canada for the moment). Check it out, and let us know your thoughts in the comments. The Best iPhone Apps Of The Week is published each weekend; a companion piece, The Best iPad Apps Of The Week, is published separately.
