Reeder Updated With Feedbin And Local Support As Google Reader Alternatives

When Google announced last month that it would be shutting down Google Reader on July 1, many wondered what would become of Reeder. But Reeder developer Silvio Rizzi was quick to reassure users, including me, that the app will live on. And today, the first signs of further life for Reeder, arguably the most popular Google Reader client for iOS and Mac, have been revealed through a new update to its iPhone edition.
Late last month, we reported that Reeder is set to add support for the premium RSS feed service Feedbin. Well, said support has been added to Reeder for iPhone, thanks to its new 3.1 update.
Rizzi says that Feedbin support is "just the beginning." More services and alternatives to Google Reader are set to be supported by Reeder in the coming weeks and months.
Reeder 3.1 actually introduces another Google Reader alternative in the form of local RSS support, enabling you to use the app as a standalone, no-sync reader.
Other improvements included in Reeder 3.1 are pull-to-refresh and miscellaneous bug fixes.
Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 5.1 or later, Reeder 3.1 is available now in the App Store as a free update or as a new $2.99 download.
Reeder for iPad and Reeder for Mac are also available. Both are free to download in their respective app stores. But their being free lasts only until their respective 2.0 updates arrive, which will add all of the features of their iPhone counterpart.
