Cydia Tweak: Launch Favorite Apps From Notification Center Using Apptray

January 16, 2014

One new jailbreak tweak makes it possible for users to launch their favorite iOS apps from Notification Center. Called Apptray, the package is available to download in the Cydia Store for $1.49, and it’s optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Once downloaded and installed, Apptray adds a fourth tab to the top of Notification Center, which sits alongside the “Today,” “All,” and “Missed” tabs. Here, shortcuts to a group of user-selected iOS apps are displayed in a grid.

Apptray adds a dedicated pane to the built-in Settings app, and in this pane users can enable or disable the jailbreak tweak outright, while also selecting which applications appear in the Apptray tab. It’s possible to adjust icon opacity using a slider toggle, too, and jailbreakers may configure Notification Center to open directly to Apptray, rather than to the “Today” tab.

You can also add an unlimited number of iOS app shortcuts to Apptray, if you wish.

Personally, this isn’t the kind of jailbreak tweak I’d be tempted to use on a day-to-day basis - after all, we have the Home screen for our favorite apps, and Spotlight for those out-of-reach applications. But some jailbreakers may wish to add another iOS app location to their iDevice, if they find that the Home screen just isn’t enough.

Apptray can be downloaded in the Cydia Store for $1.49, and it’s optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

As a reminder, some of our favorite recent additions to the Cydia Store include SwipeSelection for iOS 7 (and SwipeSelection Pro), Gridlock 2.0, and Touchy. Do you have a favorite jailbreak tweak for iOS 7?
