The companion iOS app for the Philips Hue connected lighting system has just been updated with the move to version 1.5.
Most importantly, the new version showcases some interesting third-party apps compatible with the app-controlled lights. It also improves support for the Hue lux white-only bulbs.
The update also brings a number of UI improvements. Here’s the complete list:
- Merged Light Control and Light Overview into a single Lights menu option (iPhone/iPod only) - Improved responsiveness of scene recall and enabled background scene blurring for all devices - The photos on the Scenes dashboard have been given a new more modern look - Improved interaction for scene creation and editingA universal app designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini, Philips Hue can be downloaded now on the App Store for free. If you don’t have the smart lighting system, you can purchase a starter kit for $199.95 at a number of retailers, including Apple’s online store. Version 1.4 of the app arrived in late June. That version moved the alarms, timers, and geofencing options to a dedicated menu. If you’re a fan of shark carnage, you can download the Syfy Sync app and have your Hue lights synchronize with “Sharknado” and “Sharknado 2: The Second One.” Read more about that partnership here.
