Opera Coast updated with Snapchat-like news feed and 3D Touch support
Opera has just updated both of its Web browser apps for iOS with new and noteworthy features, thereby making them more appealing to users — including those who have been browsing their iOS devices using rival apps such as Google’s popular Chrome browser, Mozilla’s recently released Firefox, and, of course, Apple’s Safari.
For YouAnd in the case of Opera Coast, Opera’s gesture- and animation-driven Web browser, its update also seeks to make the app an alternative to news apps such as Flipboard, Nuzzel, and Apple’s News. That’s because the update introduces a new personalized “For You” feature that offers an easy way to see the news that matter to you right within Opera Coast.
You’ve long been able to save your favorite sites in Opera Coast. Now, you’re also able to quickly and easily view top news items aggregated from your favorite sites, presented in a visually engaging style not unlike that of Snapchat and Instagram.
“For You articles are automatically collected articles from sites on your Opera Coast home screen,” Opera explains. “Once you have read the latest news from those channels, the feed updates with more news after 10 minutes, or whenever your favorite sites have new stories to share.”
3D Touch and moreYou can check out your very own For You feed through the new tile on your Opera Coast start screen. Alternatively, if you have an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, you can use 3D Touch’s Peek and Pop function to preview the latest news from a particular site on your home screen tiles.
You can also jump straight to For You right from your device’s home screen by using 3D Touch and pressing down on Opera Coast’s app icon to access quick shortcuts, which also includes a shortcut that lets you go directly to the app’s Web search screen.
Quick shortcuts for your first four Speed Dial entries through 3D Touch are also now available with Opera Mini, Opera’s flagship Web browser for iOS.
Moreover, Opera Mini has been updated with support for Spotlight in iOS 9, enabling you to search and go to your Speed Dial entries directly from your device’s home screen.
The latest update to Opera Mini also features syncing of Speed Dial entries, easier creation of private tabs, a new default theme, and a new setting for full-screen mode (which is on by default on devices with 3.5-in screens).
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, Opera Mini and Opera Coast are available on the App Store for free.
