Our 5 Favorite iPhone Models Over the Years Might Surprise You
Since Apple launched the first iPhone in 2007, there has been 15 iPhone versions, when you include the 5.5-inch “Plus” models, which first launched in 2014 with the iPhone 6. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of iPhone, we take a look at our five favorite iPhone models of all time, to date.
Our Favorite iPhone of All Time
iPhone 4
The iPhone 4 was the last Apple handset announced by Steve Jobs and the last model to launch in June. It was the first iPhone to feature an uninsulated stainless steel frame, which doubled as an antenna.
The fourth-generation iPhone was the first offered on Verizon’s CDMA network, as AT&T’s exclusivity ended.
The iPhone 4s wasn’t announced until October 2011, making the iPhone 4 Apple’s longest-serving flagship iPhone model.
On the downside, the iPhone 4 featured the infamous “death grip,” which led to free Bumper cases for all.
Our Other Favorites
iPhone 6s/6s Plus
Arriving one year after the iPhone 6/6 Plus, the iPhone 6s/6s Plus came without the “bendgate” fiasco of its predecessor. It included an improved fingerprint recognition sensor, 3D Touch, and LTE Advanced support.
The iPhone 6s/6s Plus, which remains available, was the first Apple handset offered in rose gold.
iPhone 4s
Like other Apple “s” devices, the iPhone 4s improved upon its immediate predecessor, in this case, the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4s was the first Apple handset to feature Siri. It also included a better camera and chipset.
The iPhone 4s is sometimes called the iPhone “for Steve.” Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs died just one day after the handset was announced.
The original iPhone
Announced in January 2007, the first iPhone launched during the following June to much fanfare. Without the “iPhone 2G,” there never would have been an iPad or Apple Watch. Without the first iPhone, perhaps we would no longer have an Apple in 2017.
iPhone 3GS
Rounding out our list of our five favorite iPhone models is the iPhone 3GS. Considered the then-speediest Apple handset to date (hence the “S” in its name), it included exclusive software features that would eventually come to other Apple devices, including a video camera, Voice Control, and Digital Compass.
Announced in June 2009, the handset remained on sale until September 2012 when the iPhone 5 was announced.
