Gmail Gains Full-Screen Image Attachment View And Better Google Apps Integration

August 28, 2013
Just a few hours ago, Yahoo! Mail for iOS was updated with easy folder management and support for opening attachments in other installed apps. Now, Gmail for iOS has been updated with a couple of notable enhancements of its own. First off, the new version of the official iOS app of Google's popular email service introduces what the Internet search giant calls an "enhanced attachment experience." Specifically, this includes larger image thumbnails, which, in turn, now open into a full-screen view when tapped. Second, the latest update to Gmail for iOS enhances the app's integration with other Google apps for iOS. Last May, the app was updated to directly open supported links in Chrome, YouTube, and Google Maps. Now, it has been updated to directly open Google Drive and Google+ links in their corresponding apps. Of course, the other Google apps should already be installed for their integration with Gmail to work. Note, too, that you can easily disable direct opening of links in any other Google app in Gmail's settings section. The new version of Gmail for iOS is available now in the App Store for free. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later. This update also comes just hours after Google released the official setup app of its Chromecast digital media streaming adapter.
