Hacker Gets iPad To Triple-Boot Between iOS 5, iOS 6 And iOS 7

March 26, 2014

In iOS hacker and Apple employee to-be @winocm’s latest video, the p0sixspwn co-creator shows that he’s managed to triple-boot an iPad and can easily switch between iOS 5, iOS 6, and iOS 7. It’s a proof-of-concept development more than anything, but the move is nevertheless a clever creation that makes for interesting viewing.

As per, @winocm uploaded his video to YouTube and posted a link to his Twitter account. He notes that the tablet exhibited is specifically an iPad 2 that’s booting between iOS 5.1, iOS 6.1.3, and iOS 7.0.6.

Here’s the video, see what you think:

Though there would be clear benefits to running an iPad that could dual- or even triple-boot, this isn’t something we’re expecting @winocm to further develop and release publicly. As mentioned, the hacker is indeed set to work for Apple from later this year, and this should to put a halt to his public jailbreak-related work.

This is a shame, especially since @winocm demonstrated a working iOS 7.1 jailbreak just a few days ago. Here’s hoping the evad3rs, who recently launched a line of iOS device skins in partnership with iCarbons, are able to pick up where @winocm left off.

In the meantime, jailbreakers are of course advised to avoid iOS 7.1 until a working solution has been released publicly.
