App Store Description

Hailed at the time as the ‘smallest university in the world’ Te Wānanga o Raukawa (TWoR) was established with only two students, by the Raukawa Marae Trustee’s in 1981, in response to a dire need for innovative change in the negative wave of statistics inflicting the people of Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Toarangatira and Te Ātiawa (ART Confederation) at that time. A special, and unique place of learning, TWoR has become recognised over the last 30 years as an opportunity for all to learn within a tikanga Māori community, under the well established principles of Whakatupuranga Ruamano, or Generation 2000.

The waiata tawhito chosen for this application, are a recognised part of the repertoire of ART mōteatea commonly heard on marae throughout our tribal area, and indeed across the country. As part of two key components of all TWoR qualifications; Hapū and Iwi Studies, and Te Reo Māori Studies, these waiata are researched and learnt by the student. The general aim is to advance the students understanding of oral literature through analysing, explaining and performing their chosen waiata.

Continuing the innovation well into the new millennium, this application was developed to assist the learning of mōteatea. It encompasses all modes of learning styles; visual (associates information with images), aural (in which the person learns through hearing/listening), tactile (through touch) and kinaesthetic (the person actually carries out the activity).

This allows learners/users of all ages, all styles, and ability to optimise interaction with content in a way not yet experienced by most.

NB: The user interface is in English and all Waiata (Songs) are in te reo Māori accompanied by English translation and associated history.
