Tic-Tac-Toe Apps For The iPhone
Tic-Tac-Toe, also known as Naughts and Crosses, is a classic game that has been ported to the iPhone in numerous applications. But which one is the best?
Tic Tac Pro
Tic Tac Pro is the best of the best. The app is one of the few that fully integrates with GameCenter. The app includes 30 GameCenter achievements, 2 leaderboards, and GameCenter multiplayer. The app goes above and beyond and also includes voice chat for GameCenter games! The app also includes tons of different themes. The app even has AI for those without GameCenter friends. Tic Tac Pro is by far the most advanced and fun version of tic-tac-toe for the iPhone.
Tic-Tac-Touch: FS5
FS5's Tic-Tac-Toe application is a great option. If you want to play the classic game in an app with a slick design, the simplest interface, advanced networking options, and even a flawless, internal chat application, then this one is for you. It does everything that you could think of for a tic-tac-toe app to do, and it does it well. The app might even become an essential one with a simple GameCenter update. For the cheap price of $0.99, you can have tic-tac-toe in its prime right in your pocket.
Terrific Tic Tac Toe
Terrific Tic Tac Toe is a fantastic alternative to the essential app. The app comes with three great themes. These include sidewalk chalk, Christmas crosses, and doodle cartoon. The app has a built in AI making single player fun. The app also supports multiplayer support over an Internet connection using Bump and there are even sound effects and music. The app has almost everything you would want. We would love to see an update to include GameCenter support.
Tic Tac Toe ⋆
This tic-tac-toe application also has a great design and a simple interface, but it is also a bit sluggish and is more complicated and unreliable when it comes to its networking capabilities. Overall, the app isn't that bad, it's just a couple of notches below FS5's. (P.S. This free version is almost exactly identical to the $0.99 version offered by the same company.)
4x4x4
This application takes a whole new spin on the concept of tic-tac-toe. Instead of having a grid that's just 3x3, it has a 3-dimensional grid of 4x4x4. This makes for a very difficult, yet interesting game. However, this game is a bit lacking since the application is missing a multiplayer mode, computer difficulties, and even a "New Game" button. This game is more of a proof-of-concept than a full-fledged, playable app, but is intriguing nonetheless.
Tic Tac Toe Ten
Tic Tac Toe Ten takes the tic-tac-toe game and builds upon it. The game is played on 10 tic-tac-toe boards instead of just one! The artificial intelligence in the game makes the gameplay fun. Once again GameCenter multiplayer support is needed in the next update. A great app with some minor annoyances.
Tic Tac Toe
Tic Tac Toe is a great option for those with live human beings to play with. The app will run on both the iPad and the iPhone. The app would benefit greatly from GameCenter multiplayer support. The interface is great, but the app is pretty limited. The app is great to play with a friend in the room with you, but not the best for anything else.
