FPS Apps For The iPad
FPS, or first person shooter games, have been wildly successful for many years. You may be a fan of Halo, Goldeneye or other well known FPS games. The app store offers an exciting array of FPS apps for iPad. This AppList will showcase some of the best ones out there.
N.O.V.A. 2 - Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance HD
NOVA 2 follows on the success of the original NOVA for iPad. NOVA stands for Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance, which the character you play is a part of. The gameplay picks up the story one year after the conclusion of the first NOVA. The game mimics the Halo franchise in many ways. The new app includes a good mix of action and puzzles. The game is a more advanced FPS game and really makes you think. The story mode includes 12 chapters that take a considerable amount of time to get through. The app also has an engaging multiplayer experience. The multiplayer gameplay would be better served with GameCenter support; instead it uses Gameloft live. The app is very entertaining and isn’t too bloody or violent.
RAGE HD
Rage HD will run on both your iPhone and your iPad. This app is the best FPS at its price point. The app throws you into a world full of mutants that you need to shoot down. The gameplay is on rails so there is no need to worry about moving, just aiming. The app also supports external displays, which allows you to hook up the iPad to a TV and use your iPhone to control the gameplay. Rage HD has GameCenter support and is a must have for any FPS fan.
Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus HD
Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus HD is a war-based FPS game. The app includes the familiar controls of NOVA and Brother in Arms. Modern Combat 2 allows you to control three characters in 12 different battlefields. The maps and levels included are both detailed and beautiful. The gameplay includes 15 different weapons. Gameloft decided once again to use Gameloft live rather than GameCenter multiplayer support. Modern Combat 2 is the best war-based FPS app available for the iPad.
Brothers In Arms® 2: Global Front HD
Brothers in Arms 2: Global Front HD is a World War II based FPS game. The app has plenty of gameplay to keep you busy. Gameloft disappoints again with their multiplayer solution. GameCenter is a great technology to connect players and yet this app does not implement it. The app utilizes the same engine empowering as NOVA 2. Brothers in Arms has great graphics and is a fun play for those into WWII FPS games.
Zombie Infection HD
Zombie Infection is built upon 12 different levels. The app lets you navigate the levels in whatever manner you want. The app includes tons of different weapons and the sudden zombie attacks make for intense gameplay. Zombie Infection is our favorite FPS zombie game.
Splinter Cell Conviction™ HD
Splinter Cell Conviction HD takes you into the world of Sam Fisher and his quest to rescue his daughter. The gameplay includes 11 levels in 8 different locations. Splinter Cell includes tons of weapons and gadgets to help you on your way. The game has plenty of content to keep you busy for days. The game is for those that want a secret agent styled FPS game for their iPad.
BATTLE BEARS -1
Battle Bears is a low cost and entertaining FPS app. The app includes Nintendo 64 styled graphics and playing the game inspires laughter. You control a bear that shoots and defends your territory. The app is pretty simple, but loads of fun. The app is kid safe (rated at 9+) and a fun one for all.
Call of Duty: Zombies HD
Call of Duty: Zombies HD lets you slay zombies all day long. The app includes only two maps, but the two maps included are fantastic. The app supports some multiplayer support (up to four people on local Wi-Fi). The graphics are fantastic, but the game is simply not as full featured as many of the alternative games.
Duke Nukem 3D SE
Duke Nukem 3D SE is a port of the popular game by the same name. The retro feel of the original game has not been lost. The graphics are great for what it is. The control scheme is what makes the game less usable. It is simply not an easy game to control. The app has huge potential, but in its current form is a disappointment.
