Apple continues to highlight importance of China as growth market with new video ad

They're Everywhere: Ads, Ads, & More Ads
February 2, 2015

While a number of big brands are busy airing their TV ads during the Super Bowl in the U.S., Apple, considered the most valuable brand in the world, has debuted a new video ad in China, its most valuable growth market.

As noted by 9to5Mac, the company has just posted a minute-and-a-half video ad ahead of the Chinese New Year. Presented as part of Apple’s “Start Something New” campaign in China, the ad is essentially a Chinese remake of “The Song” (embedded below), the heartwarming TV ad aired by the company over the last holiday season.

Like its predecessor, the new ad shows the thoughtful efforts of a young woman in creating a time-transcending gift to her grandmother: an old record of significance to the latter that’s remixed by the former using her MacBook, iPhone, and iPad.

If nothing else, the ad further underscores the importance of China to Apple, as it comes just as the company wrapped up a big week with regard to its growth in the country.

In the last week, the Cupertino-based company announced that for the first time, more iPhones were sold in China than in the U.S. It was also named the No. 1 luxury gift provider in China and the No. 1 smartphone vendor in the country along with Samsung.

Apple also recently opened a couple of retail stores in China, one of which is the largest not only in the country but also in the whole of Asia.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said in October last year that 25 additional stores would be launched within the next two years in the country.

Two of those are set to be inaugurated in China before the Chinese New Year festival on Feb. 19.
