Mophie, the company behind a huge range of successful accessories for Apple’s iOS devices, has unveiled a brand new product designed especially for the incoming Apple Watch.
Called Watch Dock, the product, which customers can preorder now for $59.95, is an aluminum dock for the Apple Watch featuring premium leather accents and offering space for both the smartwatch’s magnetic charger, and its accompanying cable. This runs along the inside of the dock’s stand, meaning the white cable is hidden out of sight, and the dock’s leather padding promises to protect the Apple Watch while it’s charging.
Usefully, Mophie’s Watch Dock securely displays the Apple Watch at an angle that’s perfect for interacting with the device’s touchscreen. “The slightly elevated, slightly angled charging position makes it easy to use your watch’s touchscreen and other features while charging. Use the dock at home or in the office knowing your watch is charging in comfort and you’ll never have to mess with tangled cables again,” Mophie explains online. Though early reviews of the Apple Watch have noted that its promise of all-day battery life really does mean “all-day,” it’s nice to see that users can still play around with the Watch even while it’s charging in Mophie’s stand. Perhaps you’ll take an Apple Watch game, like Runeblade or Watch That Homerun, for a spin.
The product is compatible with all Apple Watches and all band configurations, and it’s currently available in one silver aluminum color. You can preorder the Watch Dock now at Mophie’s website for $59.95, and it’s due to ship on April 24: the same day customers who preordered an Apple Watch will begin receiving the device.
Of course, this isn’t the first Apple Watch dock we’ve seen, but it is one of the nicest. Pad & Quill is also offering a rather luxurious, wood-crafted stand for the Apple Watch, and this is expected to reach customers in mid-May (with prices starting at $79.99, or $69.99 if you preorder the accessory). There’s also a fairly elegant HiRise stand for the Apple Watch from Twelve South, and a stand for the Watch and iPhone from Griffin which, personally, I’m not so keen on.
Besides stands, further accessories for the Apple Watch include cases and, of course, extra bands which can be preordered from the Apple Online Store now.
