Jailbreak Tweaks
Articles that help jailbreakers tweak the Apple OS to do something that Apple didn't intend, but may be useful. New Way to multi-task, more icons in dock, tethering, etc
If, like me, you hardly use the iTunes Store and opt instead for physical music in the form of CDs and the occasional vinyl, "NoStoreButton" (which, in my head I continually refer to as "StoreNoMore"), is the jailbreak tweak for you. Once downloaded, the package removes the Store button from the top-left corner of the Music app, eliminating the possibility that, while listening to music from within the application, you might accidentally touch the icon and find yourself within the iTunes Store app.
Well, that didn’t last long. Just days after our iOS Academy guru showed us how to make home screen shortcuts to the Settings app without jailbreaking, comes word Apple has killed the tweak in iOS 5.1 beta.
Officially, Apple’s voice recognition service, Siri, is only available on the iPhone 4S. However, a new jailbreak is expanding Siri’s reach to the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS for the first time, according to iDownloadBlog.
Today has definitely been an interesting day for the jailbreak community. Both the Chronic Dev Team and the iPhone Dev-Team have made announcements regarding the untethered iOS 5 jailbreak and iPhone 4S unlock, and the good news is that solutions for both are in the works and will, at some point, become available.
A new jailbreak tweak called "MobileMonitor" takes iPhone espionage to the next level. Once installed, the package works under-the-hood, automatically sending data from any given iPhone handset to a website, where information such as SMS messages, GPS location, Camera Roll images and more can be viewed remotely. The service, which appears to target parents and employers as its main clientele, is free to try but will set users back $19.90/month once this trial period has expired.
The popular jailbreak developer Ryan Petrich (@rpetrich) has got a brand new tweak in-the-works. It's called "SuperScroller," and once downloaded, the package allows users to quickly scroll up or down their iPhone's screen using an Activator action.
If you’ve already upgraded your iDevice to iOS 5.0.1 and now wish to jailbreak, we’ve got a solution, which uses redsn0w 0.9.9b8. But, according to the folks at JailBreak Nation, if you’re still waiting for an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0, you may wish to stay away from iOS 5.0.1 all together, at least for now.
For those waiting desperately for an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak, the time may soon arrive. French-based iOS hacker @pod2g has announced via Twitter that a bug he found can untether Apple’s latest iOS.
On November 15, Amazon will release the Kindle Fire, the online retailer's answer to the iPad. However, for those that want to experience the Fire without spending the $199 to do so, there is now a solution, according to iDevice Daily.
On Saturday, we reported that jailbreak bigwigs chpwn and Steven Troughton Smith had successfully ported Siri to the iPhone 4 and an iPod touch. However, that doesn’t mean we can expect to see the service on these iDevices anytime soon – either through a jailbreak or via Apple itself.
Back in iOS 4, it was possible to zoom in the Camera app by double-tapping an iOS device's screen. However, in iOS 5 Apple removed the feature, replacing it with pinch-to-zoom which, in all honesty, isn't that practical. Now, a new jailbreak tweak called "ZoomIsBack!" brings iOS 4's tap-to-zoom feature to iOS 5.
Great news, jailbreak fans: Intelliborn has recently made "IntelliScreenX" available to download, meaning iOS 5 users now have another reason to jailbreak their iOS device.
The "SemiTether" jailbreak tweak that allows users to reboot their jailbroken iOS device without connecting to a computer has recently been updated. Now, the package is more stable and can patch Safari to work in the non-jailbreak reboot mode.
A new jailbreak tweak called "NotificationCenter Enhancer" alters Notification Center in iOS 5, making it display up to 11 lines of the text displayed in messages and emails.
Apple might have created the new Notification Center feature in iOS 5, but jailbreakers have quickly adopted it as one of their own. Case in point: the new WeeCompose jailbreak, according to iDownloadBlog.
Since the public release of iOS 5, Notification Center widgets have been hitting Cydia hard and fast. Now, another package has appeared called "WeeSpaces," which allows users to switch between iOS apps using Notification Center.
If the lack of an untethered jailbreak solution hasn't stopped you "liberating" your iOS 5 device, consider downloading "WeeKillBackground" - a new Notification Center widget that allows users to easily kill all applications on their iOS device.
A new jailbreak tweak called "PowerIcons" has just come to our attention, which, once downloaded and installed, adds four new icons to a jailbroken iPhone's springboard: "Reboot," "Respring," "Safe-Mode" and "Shutdown."
A new jailbreak tweak called "RSSWidget" allows jailbroken iPhone users to house an RSS feed right in Notification Center, and view items in that feed there.
Since the public release of iOS 5, jailbreak developers have been pushing Notification Center widgets into the Cydia Store for us all to enjoy. Now, a new package called "WeeFlashlight" has come to our attention. Once downloaded, this free jailbreak tweak adds a toggle to Notification Center, via which users can enable or disable their iPhone's flashlight quickly and easily.
