Updated: Jony Ive Has Disappeared From Apple's Online List Of SVPs
Has Jony Ive left Apple? We don’t think this is the case, but what is curious is that the senior vice president of Design is no longer appearing at the company’s online list of executives – even if his profile Web page is still live and accessible.
First spotted by 9to5mac, such a change usually signals the departure of an Apple SVP. For example, when former head of iOS Scott Forstall left Apple, he disappeared from the “Executive Profiles” Web page, too. Significantly, though, Ive’s staff profile page can still be accessed (as of this writing), indicating that the change to Apple’s Executive Profiles could be a website glitch.
We’ll be watching the page carefully and will update this article with further information as we receive it.
Recently, Jony Ive designed a range of one-of-a-kind products for a special (RED) auction held towards the end of last year, and included in the auction was a red Mac Pro and a pair of rose gold EarPods. Before this, he oversaw the huge design change to Apple’s mobile OS introduced with iOS 7, and ironically had his title “flattened” soon after to senior vice president of Design (dropping the word “Industrial” to signal his influence on software, as well as hardware).
Ive also received a knighthood in the Queen’s New Year Honours List back in early 2012. Though we’d heard previously that the SVP had been planning on leaving his position at Apple and retiring to his native England, a subsequent report indicated that in actual fact, this wasn’t the case.
