The wildly popular Crossy Road has just run into a notable update.

Touted as an “endless arcade hopper,” Crossy Road is a Frogger-inspired game that has you guiding your playable character through a voxel world so that it doesn’t get hit by cars, drown in rivers, and get eaten by hawks, among other ways to die.

Released in November last year, it was hailed by us here at AppAdvice as one of our 10 best free iPhone apps of 2014. Prior to its launch, it was already acclaimed as a finalist in the Australian Game Developer Awards 2014 for Game of the Year, Excellence in Art, and Excellence in Design, created as it was by the Australia-based indie game studio Hipster Whale.

As mentioned, Crossy Road has just received an update.

The latest update to the game introduces 16 new characters. These include the Australian animals kangaroo, platypus, echidna, kookaburra, wombat, koala, dingo, cockatoo, and emu, along with several new mystery characters.

But more significantly, the update adds support for MFi game controllers. As a result, you can now enjoy playing Crossy Road using the likes of the Logitech PowerShell and the SteelSeries Stratus.

Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later, Crossy Road is available on the App Store for free.

The game offers in-app purchases for unlocking new characters, which can also be unlocked as prizes in exchange for coins collected by playing or watching video ads.

According to Hipster Whale, the video ads in Crossy Road have earned the developer more than $1 million.
