Mike was born in Poland but moved to California at age 9. Mike has graduated from Chico State with a degree in journalism in spring '10 and lives in Cupertino (Apple headquarters) currently. He hopes to continue writing about games and technology and loves his iPad. He got it as a graduation gift along with an iPhone 4 but the iPad is Mike's real device of choice. A recently launched app and service allows you to put loyalty cards on your iPhone and use them with various retailers. The app is called Stampt and is available for free on the App Store. The big draw is the ability to have all these cards in one app without having to carry them around in your purse or wallet.
Check out EA's latest racing game to hit the App Store. Shift 2 Unleashed is a sequel to EA's Need for Speed Shift that offered realistic and sim-oriented gameplay. The new game expands on this formula with new cars, tracks and features.
Bizango Blast is a new game to hit iOS and has been created with the Unreal engine. The game's visuals consist of a cartoon art-style that gives it its own personality. Other features include five different worlds and a total of 50 levels to play through.
A classic board game that has won numerous awards, is now available on the iPad. Puerto Rico HD is a board game set in the times of colonial Spain and puts you in the role of a governor in charge of one of the islands of the Spanish colony; Puerto Rico.
Do you enjoy testing your problem-solving skills and logical thinking by playing 3D puzzle games? If so, check out Hope's Quest for the iPad. The game is inspired by a Playstation 1 classic, called Intelligence Qube.
An open world racing game will be hitting iOS soon, it's called Forever Drive. It will have a mode for user creation of tracks as well as the ability to share them over a Wi-Fi connection. The visual style appears to be heavily influenced by Tron.
If you enjoy multiplayer-based, first-person shooters, check out the trailer for Emotional Robots' upcoming game, Warm Gun. Warm Gun is set in the wild wild west, but also mixes in some sci-fi-based elements and special effects from another era. The art style is also very steampunk-like. Look for it sometime this month.
A new website and teaser have been created for the upcoming iOS horror FPS game, The Dark Meadow. The game is powered by the Unreal Engine and will offer stunning graphics. Look for the release sometime this month.
Gameloft has been doing quite well as of late. In fact, the iOS gaming company's app sales have gone up by 15 percent during the first half of 2011 and they don't look like they will be slowing down anytime soon.
Final Fantasy Tactics will be released on iOS in just a few days. The game has been unveiled to cost £10.99, which should be around $15.99. Final Fantasy tactics was originally released on the original Playstation and later ported to the Playstation Portable. This version is based on the PSP released with other enhancements added as well.
Ubisoft has decided to bring some of their biggest games to tablets like the iPad. Among the future releases, Assasin's Creed has already been promised. Whether Ubisoft will develop these releases internally or outsource them to Gameloft remains to be seen.
A new physics puzzler is heading for iOS on August 4. It is called Kickin' Momma and is being released by Hothead game studios. The title will launch as a universal app and features a momma kicking her offspring.
