Layar, the development company that has brought iOS a variety of awesome augmented reality applications, has another treat in store - this time, for developers. A free tool called "Layar Player" reportedly allows developers to "embed augmented reality directly into [their] own iPhone app."

Apple has revealed that nearly 10 billion apps have now been downloaded from the App Store worldwide, and they are celebrating this grand milestone with a contest.

The universal VLC for iOS application has been removed from the App Store. The news comes following several months of dispute between the original developers of the VideoLan Project, and the developers of VLC for iOS (Applidium).
