Specifications. Both the 5.8-inch OLED iPhone X and the 5.5-inch iPhone 8 Plus will offer 3GB RAM, while the 4.7-inch iPhone 8 will include 2GB RAM.
New features leaked. 9to5Mac and MacRumors have received leaked versions of iOS 11 GM, which should arrive for developers this week. The leak is full of discoveries, including:
- At least 16 new wallpapers for iPhone are incoming, including “seven sure-to-be-popular retro-styled versions.”
- First look at third-generation Apple Watch.
- Portrait Lighting, supports “Contour Light, Natural Light, Stage Light, Stage Light Mono, and Studio Light. It’s possible this Portrait mode enhancement could be related to the flash when shooting.”
- True Tone Display
- “Face ID appears to be the official marketing name for what’s been referenced as Pearl ID, the facial recognition features that will likely replace the Touch ID fingerprint recognition feature.”
- 3D, animated versions of emoji characters for iMessage
- Second-generation AirPods, minor update only
- A11 Fusion chip is a six core processor
Delayed. We might not see the iPhone X delivered to customers until October, even though it will probably go on sale with the other two devices.
What’s in a Name? Apple’s likely to call its long-anticipated 5.8-inch OLED smartphone the “iPhone X,” “iPhone Edition,” or “iPhone X Edition.” Meanwhile, we should also be seeing the 4.7-inch “iPhone 8” and 5.5-inch “iPhone 8 Plus.”
Get Ready to Pay. The iPhone X may be priced at $999 for the 64GB model, $1,099 for the 256GB model, and $1,119 for the 512GB model, according to serial leaker Benjamin Geskin.
Could Samsung be the reason for the price jump?
Not so fast, says USB, which believes the 5.8-inch handset will be priced at $900 for a 64GB model and $1,000 for the 256GB model.
Colors. It’s becoming increasingly likely that the newly designed iPhone will be available in just three colors: black, white, and brush copper.
While the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus will look very similar to their predecessors, the same can’t be said for the iPhone 8.
Apple’s new flagship device is almost certainly going to feature an OLED display. Other key components are likely to include:
- First new iPhone design since iPhone 6 launched in 2014
- All glass design; ; usable screen size of 5.15 inches or 1,125 pixels by 2,436 pixels
- Water resistance improved to IP68; or perhaps waterproof
- 10-nanometer A11 chip
- Much smaller bezels
- Wireless Charging, probably using Qi protocol;
- 10W USB-C wall charger
- Iris scanning for authentication; infrared face unlock capability
- Edge-to-edge display from Samsung; 92 million panels ordered?
- True Tone
- New sound when charging
- Vertical camera on the back
- Price could exceed $1,000 for the first time; early supply shortages, as usual
- The end of the Home button, replaced by facial recognition or a “function area.” No Touch ID on iPhone 8
- A new “Blush Gold” color version could be incoming
Features Now Less Likely, Once Previously Rumored
- Long-range wireless charging
- A fingerprint scanner on the back of the handset.
- A wrap-around design
- ‘iPhone 8’ Could Come in 4 Colors, Including a Mirror Like Option
