One of the top-selling VNC clients for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad has recently received a significant update. iTeleport 5.2 allows users to control their Mac using simple voice commands, according to news first published by MacStories.

The same team which late last month successfully ported Apple's voice recognition service, Siri, to the iPhone 4 have done it again. Steve Stroughton-Smith, chpwn, and Ryan Petrich have announced they have ported Siri to the iPhone 3GS as well, according to TiPb. While this news doesn't mean Apple will be putting its voice recognition service on the iPhone 3GS anytime soon, it does suggest it is possible to do so.

The former CEO of Google, Eric Schmidt, suggests that Apple’s new voice recognition assistant, Siri, could pose a “competitive threat” to his company’s popular search business. Schmidt made these comments during a meeting in September with U.S. Senators. However, those comments were just made available this week in written form, according to Cult Of Mac.

While you wouldn't know it from Apple’s latest marketing campaign, the Siri voice assistant service remains in beta. As such, it doesn’t contain some of the features that will likely be added in the future. Case in point, Siri is currently unable to launch third-party apps.
