The AppAdvice Week In Review: iPad mini 2, Black Friday Deals And Lady Gaga

November 24, 2013
Thanksgiving is a day to give thanks surrounded by family and friends. Throw in a parade, some football games, and a truckload of food, and the day is complete. Or is it? For the first time, most big box retailers are opening on Thanksgiving to kick off the Black Friday weekend. Many of these will have some awesome deals on Apple products. Here are just a few of them. H.H. Gregg is offering a promotion on new iPhone purchases. The company will be selling the 16GB iPhone 5s for $189.99, or $10 off the regular price.  The 16GB iPhone 5c will be just $49.99, or $50 off. With the purchase of any 4G LTE smartphone, the buyer will also receive a $100 H.H. Gregg gift card. At Target, a $100 gift card is offered with every 9.7-inch iPad purchase, while new iPad minis come with a $75 Target gift card. For the fifth-generation iPod touch (16GB), Target is offering customers a $50 gift card, and the iPhone 5s (also 16GB) comes with a $30 gift card. Best Buy is offering between $50 and $70 off Apple’s iPad Air, $100 off the 16GB iPad 2, $48 off the iPhone 5c, and $50 off the 32GB fifth-generation iPod touch. Discounts of $200 are to be applied to the 21.5-inch iMac and the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, and $20 has been taken off the price of Apple’s AirPort Extreme. Walmart is offering gift cards with iPhone and iPad purchases: both the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c come with a $75 Walmart gift card, and iPad Air purchases include a $100 gift card. This means the price of Apple’s fifth-generation 9.7-inch tablet can be written down to just $399. Despite rumors to the contrary, Apple won't be opening most of its retail stores on Thanksgiving. Instead, stores will open as early as 6 a.m. local time on Black Friday. This news came after Apple chief executive officer Tim Cook urged Apple Retail Stores to close on Thanksgiving, citing the importance of staff spending the day with their families. Apple has yet to announce what deals will be available on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Rather shop online? Apple has finally unveiled an Apple Store app for iPad.

Other news

We received further confirmation that Apple will unveil larger iPhones in 2014. This week's rumor suggests the so-called "iPhone 6" could come with a 4.9-inch Retina display. Unfortunately, more real estate may cost us more. For the first time since 2008, Apple is likely to raise iPhone prices. Are you looking for an iPad mini with Retina display this holiday season? It's getting easier to buy the tablet. The iPhone 5s is also getting easier to find. Have you heart set on buying an unlocked iPhone 5s? U.S. residents can now do so via the Apple online store.
